School of Information Engineering of Shandong University at Weihai was founded in June 2004. The school is incorporated by the original Department of Electronics Engineering, Department of Control Engineering and Department of Computer Science. Now the school covers Department of Electronics Engineering, Department of Computer Science, Department of automation, Department of measurement and control, Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Department of Software Engineering and Laboratory Center. Currently, there are more than 80 faculties, 14 laboratory assistants and 18 administra-tive staff in the school. Among the faculty members, there are 11 professors, 34 associate professors, and 2 senior engineers. 54 of them have master or above degrees. At present, the total enrollment of the school includes 2384 undergraduate students and 45 master candidates. There are also 5 research institutes: Electronic System Institute, Industry Control Tech-nology Institute, Control Theory and Application Institute, Computer System and Application Institute, and Sino-Korean Joint IT Institute.
The school has accomplished many research projects, such as National Natural Science Founda-tion of China project, sub-project of National 863 Program, Shandong province Natural Science Foundation project, Shandong province Science & Technology Development Plan project, Education Department of Shandong project and Weihai Science & Technology Development Plan project. Our school has won many prizes awarded by national and provincial governments for its creative achieve-ments of research work. Within our school, there are six undergraduate programs. They are Computer Science and Technology, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Automation, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, Machine Design & Manufacturing and Their Automation and Software engineering programs. Students graduated from the school have better science research abilities and creative-innovation abilities. The rate of graduate obtaining employment and the rate of graduate passing the postgraduate entrance exam all rank top in our university. Our students achieved quite high scores in national math modeling for undergraduate, electronics design and challenge cup competitions, obtained 3 national awards and 27 provincial awards.
Our school accepts doctor candidates in Signal and Information Processing program and master candidates in Signal and Information Processing, Control Theory and Control Engineering, Circuits and Systems, Computer Application technology.
Circuits and Systems
The research of this program focuses on electric power information and automation. The faculty members of this program have completed a project of Shandong province Science & Technology Development Plan, a project of Ministry of Science & Technology and other transverse research projects. Faculty members obtained a second-class State Science & Technology Award, a second-class Province Science & Technology Award, a first-class State Education Ministry Science & Technology Award and a second-class State Education Committee Science & Technology Award. Many of research work have been industrialized, which has reached excellent social and economic benefits.
Control Theory and Control Engineering
The research of this program focuses on production scheduling and combinational optimization. The faculty members of this program have strong scientific research ability and were granted “Excellent Science Team of Shandong University at Weihai”. They have completed Natural Science Foundation for the Youth of Shandong University and obtained a third-class Shandong Academy Excellent Scientific Research Fruits Award, a first-class Shandong Education Committee Science & Technology Progress Award, a third-class Shandong Education Committee Science & Technology Progress Award, as well as Shandong Excellent Ph. D Dissertations Award and Outstanding Contribution to Scientific Research Awards of Shandong university at Weihai. Faculty members have published more than 200 papers in national and international core journals and important science conferences. ?More than ten of them are indexed by SCI and over 20 are indexed by EI.
Computer Application and Technology
The research of this program focuses on Data Mining, Computer Graphics and Grid Computing. The faculty members have completed more than 10 research projects. Total research funds amount to hundreds of thousands. Faculty members have published 3 teaching materials and 28 papers. Three of the papers are indexed by EI and another three are indexed by ISTP.
Signal and Information Processing
The research of this program focuses on digital filter design, natural language information processing and music signals analysis etc. Faculty members have completed many projects, including a National Natural Science Founda-tion of China project, a sub-task of National 863 Program, two Shandong province Natural Science Foundation projects, a Shandong province Science & Technology Development Plan project, a Weihai Science & Technology Development Plan project, Education Department of Shandong and Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars of State Education Ministry and other many transverse researches. Faculty members won many provincial awards and have published more than 100 papers. Eight of them are indexed by SCI and another 18 are indexed by EI.
